EVERYDAY FENG SHUI: A FUN FAMILY ROOM FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Here is an example of how we injected Feng Shui into a casual family room. We kept the walls neutral with unassuming, earthy gray Cedar Key by Benjamin Moore. Added splashes of color with our favorite Loloi Rug in Skye Terracotta, to ground the space and keep those gleaming hardwood floors protected from kid traffic. This family is unique in that they all possess earth and wood in their 9 Star Ki Astrology, so we support that in the floral artwork, plants, and splashes of turquoise (wood) and orange (earth). The large IKEA sectional is easy to spot clean and everyone in the family has a seat close to each other for family movie night. 🍿 Fuzzy chairs from target are kid-sized and cozy for gazing out the large window for some Southwest sun ☀️ Our favorite are the durable, orange poufs which double as ottomans and extra seating, especially to warm up by the fireplace after a long day of snowman making and snowball fights ❄️ ⛄️
BREEZY BEACH GETAWAY
An antique farmhouse turned condo in a Connecticut beach community serves as a relaxing weekend getaway for a family of four. Budget was tight so we utilized vintage furniture purchased from local antique and consignment shops and even scored the coffee table for a few dollars. We then painted the kitchen cabinets a lovely sea green, installed new quartz countertops, and had beautiful hickory floors put in the entire first floor living space. Finally, we updated the bathroom with new tile and vanity. Notice the BEFORE/AFTER photos. Subtle changes transformed the space into a light and airy retreat for everyone to enjoy fresh air, warm sunshine, and relaxing family time.
Multi-functional Dining Room DeSIgn
This is the latest room I am working on. The room is cozy in size and the client really needs it to function as a dining/sewing room. No problem! Space was optimized by bringing in a round pedestal dining table that can be extended for larger gatherings. Round tables are preferred in Feng Shui as the curves encourage better flow without pointy corners, and is considered very good when dining and entertaining friends and family. I worked closely with the client in selecting an affordable, yet high quality dining table and chairs she loved. Two cabinets on either side of the window serve as storage for fabric. Large gold mirrors were added to reflect light, make the room feel larger, and up the glam factor. Two fun lemon trees were added for texture, whimsy, and balance.
BOHO FORMAL LIVING ROOM (NOT YOUR MAMA’S UNUSED FANCY ROOM)
As a living room where guests come to gather, it is fortunate this room falls in the Travel and Helpful People Gua. So to boost the gua, the room is set up for conversation and cocktails. The circular, copper table also boosts the function of the space which is ruled by metal. Did you know, circles in Feng Shui represent friendship?
